Tree artwork!

I am working on creating different pieces of art that all have to do with trees. My goal is to have a whole series of different tree pieces that are postcard size. I love to send letters to my friends, so I'll make color copies and use them as stationery!

I've been going to art class once a week, so that's where I'm doing most of my work. I will take pictures of some of the work and post it to the blog. The first piece I completed was an egg-tempera painting of a sunset. I drew the silhouettes of trees on top of the sunset with Sharpie marker. I'll post a picture soon.

  4. I think that's similar enough! Maybe you could teach me something about oil pastel, Collins. I haven't used that medium yet.

I spent two weeks working on colored pencil sketching, and it was very frustrating! I couldn't get the look that I wanted, even though I spent a lot of time on just a few leaves. At the very end of art class this week, I did some watercolor work that took me five minutes and was a lot more satisfying. So I think that will be my next medium.

  5. I am quite new to it as well.

Cameron made me draw something than I started making more and more pieces.

Recently i have been experimenting by drawing on different colored paper rather than only white

  6. Awesome! Mini paintings! This sounds like it will be really fun.
P.S. Its cool to make your own postage stamps, but I think you will need to put another one too.

  7. Yesterday I did "tonal work" with brown ink and water. I think this is considered watercolor. I really like this kind of work. It leaves a lot of room for error, which is good for me! It's amazing how many tones are possible from just one color of ink. I'm working on a postcard of two winter trees - just branches upon branches. It's kind of stark, like winter time. I'll work on something more spring-y next, I think. I am psyched for warm weather!

  8. Collins, I think it's interesting that you're doing work on different colors of paper. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I will try to remember to put photographs of my work on the blog this weekend!

  9. Tip for painting: do light on dark colors for effect, but I find it useful to let the dark colors dry first. (:
